The regeneration of the Intendente, that which appears in all the newspapers, is much more profound: it goes up the stairs and the streets of the hill, it extends over Martim Moniz, laziness in Cerca da Graça and is mixed with Vietnamese spices, Mozambican, Chinese, halal butchers, Afro and Asian hairdressers. You walk through the live walls of photos of fadistas and people from the neighborhood or through the corridors and stairs of an innovation center, savor yourself in a community kitchen of volunteers, live in network projects that reintegrate prostitutes and drug addicts and empties into the largo do Caldas, now called Adelino Amaro da Costa - the Castle of São Jorge at the top, the Baixa pombaline just a lift away. The Intendente opened the door to a new neighborhood, the old Mouraria
Where to Go in Lisbon By CHADNER NAVARRO FEB. 4, 2016 (The New York Times) Locals and in-the-know travelers head to Intendente, a historic district in Portugal’s capital city that has undergone a dramatic makeover. A few years ago, the Intendente area was one of those that Lisbon guides told you to avoid, but nowadays it is one of the places to visit in the city and you are already starting to see tourists going around the maps to see where it is. Largo do Intendente has been rehabilitated and its big star is the "Kit Garden" by Joana Vasconcelos, a small and romantic garden that gives life to the space. Around it are some buildings with the typical Lisbon layout and their famous tiles. It is worth visiting this Largo mainly because it is proof that it is possible to recover its darkest areas in Lisbon.
